SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

For several years under a federally-funded project, worked with a team of consultants to implement performance improvement, linking strategy with implementation for hospitals. Results: Successfully reach hospitals and implemented a Balanced Scorecard system to improve overall operations.

Small practice needed to grow to survive and thrive. Developed and implemented a marketing plan. Results: Grew practice from two days per week (16 hours) with one provider to six days per week (44 hours) with two providers; averaged 15 new patients per month following implementation of marketing plan and sustained growth.

Publicly funded women’s health clinics have witnessed a decline in the number of patients. Developed and implemented a year-long marketing strategy with 12 agencies. Results: Clinics developed specific marketing plans, upgraded business cards and marketing materials, 11 clinics have upgraded websites, 4 clinics demonstrated an increase in the number of new patients within 6 months of implementation, 3 clinics started blogs, and 3 clinics created pages on MySpace or other social network websites.

A women’s health clinic experienced significant staff turnover and financial problems. Conducted a clinic assessment of marketing and collections; provided training and follow-up for this agency. Results: Improved collections, and increased donations from patients by engaging clinical staff, established a timely process to follow-up with insurance denials, upgraded their website, and crafted an educational newsletter for patients and partners explaining their funding structure and needs.

Governing board of directors for a non-profit, state-wide organization experienced a series of problems following the termination of the director. Provided technical assistance for the purpose of board and organizational progress. Results: Recruitment process in place for the director position and subsequently hired a new director, by-laws reviewed and updated, board communication processes addressed, and board recruitment strategies developed.

Multi-year, publicly funded regional project required detailed project management and an effort to reach 100% of the client hospitals. Results: Reached 91 hospitals (from a target of 122) and provided high quality consultation services that mostly resulted in improved operations (as assessed by an independent evaluator).

Local community experience unmet needs and required an avenue to fund solutions. Results: Served as a founding member and initial co-chair to establish a local community foundation.

Publicly funded agencies have experienced significant increase in the number of persons with limited English proficiency (LEP). Results: Developed a self-guide, training manual for agency staff when needed interpretation services, included a workbook.

The immunization rate for the county was among the lowest in the state. Managed an immunization campaign that involved school administrators and teachers, public health and school nurses, and parents. Results: A 98% increase in the number of children in compliance (including immunization records or parents signed waivers).

Local agencies had little experience in taking initiative to establish a community level coalition, even when an issue warranted such action. Worked with others to develop a training curriculum on coalition start-ups. Conducted training at the local level with agencies, community partners and media representatives. Results: Conducted 23 training events with other trainers. Participants increased knowledge, skills and confidence in participating on coalitions and establishing coalitions in their communities.

Current assessment tool was not yielding useful information to develop and maintain a successful training program. Researched various assessment tools and communicated options to clients. Facilitated discussions that resulted in the selection of one tool for piloting. Results: Implemented the new tool that yielded useful, practical information to meet training needs.

Funding source requested information on effectiveness and impact of training program. Working with clients and trainers, researched various evaluation methods. Results: Developed an assessment program first with trainers and technical assistant consultants. The evaluation process was simple and yielded useful information toward program improvements.

Regional office had never worked with youth employees. Met with several high school counselors and other offices to assess incorporating youth in the workplace. Results: Developed a program that hired young men to be exposed to a professional office that had a public health and a not-for-profit focus.

A significant amount of materials and documents were being circulated and then “piled”. Proposed to the office to develop a resource library. Proposal was accepted. Results: Established a resource library and developed a database for listing and managing materials. Library is currently being considered to merge with another resource library with a different agency.

Received a document from a client proposing a significant change of consolidating state agencies and services. Conducted a thorough review of the proposal; and analyzed the impact and consequences of the change on the agencies, funding, staffing and clients. Presented the findings to the regional administrator. Results: The analysis indicated possible negative consequences on revenue if the program continued in its current direction. Recommendations were made to improve program progress. The program is now researching options and looking at successful implementation activities.

Opened a women’s health/ family planning clinic. Immediately faced challenge from community individuals opposed to such services (preventing unintended pregnancies). Conducted and participated in concept sessions with staff and community key informants. These brainstorming sessions generated ideas that were then implemented as part of the marketing effort. Results: The clinic was in operation for 12 years before merging with another agency. Local community support was evident.

The number of blood donors on the college campus was extremely low. Developed a marketing program to increase awareness and benefits of donating blood, targeting college students and faculty. Solicited help from marketing, medical and nursing students. Results: Evaluated the results showing an increase in the number of donors by 400%, and an increase in knowing the benefits of donating blood.
